Title: Safe Containment of 30,000-Liter Hazardous Leak in Hamedan; Timely Emergency Response Prevents Major Safety Crisis

Following the leakage of a significant volume of highly flammable material from a petrochemical tanker at the entrance to Marianeh, Hamedan Province, a coordinated and swift response by firefighting crews and municipal services successfully contained the incident. The operation prevented a major safety crisis and averted potential life-threatening or environmental damage.

According to the Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) News Agency, citing IRIB News, the Hamedan Fire Department and Safety Services reported that a petrochemical tanker traveling from Iraq to Markazi Province suffered a severe fuel leak at the entrance to the city of Marianeh.

Given the substantial volume of leaked material and the proximity of the incident site to urban traffic routes and several woodworking workshops, there was an immediate threat of catastrophic fire or explosion. Any spark or heat source in the vicinity could have led to widespread destruction, endangering residents and local businesses.

Upon receiving the alert, the Marianeh firefighting team arrived at the scene promptly, secured the perimeter, and notified the Hamedan Fire Department’s central command. Subsequently, five firefighting vehicles and support units, along with 20 firefighters and operational experts, were dispatched under the direct command of the Deputy of Operations.

During this sensitive operation, emergency crews implemented rigorous safety protocols, including containing the flow of the leaked material, erecting protective barriers to prevent it from spreading onto the main road, eliminating ignition sources, and continuously monitoring the environment. Measures were also taken to manage the spilled material to prevent environmental contamination and further hazards.

The operation, carried out in effective cooperation with Marianeh’s municipal services, law enforcement, and other relevant agencies, was successfully concluded after five hours of intensive efforts.

HSE and crisis management experts emphasize that incidents involving the transport of hazardous materials require strict adherence to safety standards, continuous technical inspection of transport fleets, and the high readiness of emergency response teams. The rapid and coordinated action in this incident serves as an exemplary case of effective risk management and the application of HSE principles in emergency situations.
