Fire Incident During Work Operations at Kaleh Amol Plant / Workers Remain Safe as HSE Reviews Begin

A fire incident that occurred in one of the production sections of Kaleh Company in Amol, caused by welding operations carried out by contractor personnel, was successfully contained without any casualties or injuries. The incident has once again highlighted the critical importance of strict compliance with Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) requirements in high‑risk industrial activities.

According to an ILNA correspondent, the fire broke out in recent hours at one of Kaleh Company’s operational units located in Amol County. Following the incident, the company’s internal safety and firefighting teams promptly responded, implementing control and containment measures that prevented the fire from spreading to other sections of the facility.

Nasrollah Daryabigi, Executive Secretary of the Workers’ House of Mazandaran Province, provided further details on the incident, stating that Kaleh Amol employs approximately 5,000 workers, with nearly 1,000 employees working in the affected section. Fortunately, no workers were injured at the time of the incident.

He explained that initial investigations indicate the fire occurred during welding operations carried out by contractor personnel. Such activities are categorized as high‑risk tasks and require strict adherence to HSE procedures, including the issuance of a Hot Work Permit, proper site preparation, and the availability of firefighting equipment.

Daryabigi emphasized that all relevant authorities, including company management, safety experts, and related response teams, are currently present at the site. Comprehensive safety inspections are underway to ensure full risk mitigation while detailed investigations are being conducted to determine the root cause of the incident and assess compliance with HSE standards by contractors and operational teams. Plans are also in place to restore the affected section to the production cycle as soon as possible.

HSE specialists note that incidents of this nature, even when no injuries occur, represent a serious warning for industrial facilities. They stress the need to strengthen contractor safety management systems, enhance continuous workforce training, conduct risk assessments prior to hot work activities, and improve oversight of safety procedure implementation.

The incident concluded without human casualties largely due to timely safety measures and the rapid response of internal emergency and firefighting teams.
