National HSE Strategies: President Emphasizes Balanced Development and Sustainable Environmental Governance

Tehran — The Workforce Health and Safety Supporters news outlet reports that President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian met academics, specialists and environmental activists to discuss sustainable governance and integrating HSE principles into national policymaking. He identified continuous education and scientific resource management as prerequisites for overcoming climate crises and achieving balanced industrial development.

Risk management and ecological capacity
Criticizing past development without environmental considerations, the President said imposing population and industrial loads on areas lacking ecological capacity disregards basic risk management. Pressure beyond carrying capacity can cause land subsidence, water crises and climatic instability, imposing major human and economic costs on government and society.

Industrial and environmental standards
He called for strict environmental impact assessment (EIA) standards. Halting industrial projects without environmental documentation and preventing water-intensive industry in water-stressed areas form part of the government's risk-reduction strategy. Industrial development that fails to protect basic water, soil and energy resources is unsustainable and creates future crises.

Clean energy and a low-carbon economy
Renewables are a strategic necessity for managing national energy imbalances. The President called for a systems approach to power projects, particularly solar installations. Innovative water-saving panel-cleaning methods and combining energy projects with smart agriculture exemplify lifecycle thinking that should become an implementation protocol.

HSE culture: from school to society
Education is fundamental to changing consumption patterns and strengthening social responsibility. HSE and natural-resource protection should be established in childhood. Without national awareness of efficient water, electricity and gas use, even very large infrastructure investments will be accompanied by resource waste.

Constructive cooperation with civil society
The President called for changing security-oriented attitudes toward environmental activists. He said the government fully supports practical ideas and research that protect national interests and environmental sustainability. Executive bodies must enable cooperation with specialist organizations, since the environment is a pillar of national security.

The meeting concluded with technical proposals on industrial and agricultural water recirculation, drone-based real-time resource monitoring and waste management reform. The President instructed specialist committees to examine and implement these proposals.
