According to Mehr News Agency and the Iran Health Insurance Organization's public relations office, Managing Director Dr. Mohammad Mehdi Nasehi met headquarters and provincial managers to discuss transforming oversight. He emphasized health literacy as a key tool for managing healthcare risks and protecting patient safety.
Explaining a transition from traditional payer to active regulator, Nasehi said managing health expenditure is also a cultural and safety requirement. Strategic purchasing should prioritize patient safety and prevention of risky, unnecessary treatment alongside effectiveness.
HSE standards in service delivery
He stressed quaternary prevention. Unnecessary procedures and prescriptions without clinical indications are major patient-safety risks, imposing additional costs and exposing patients to secondary treatment hazards. The Organization would systematically review oversight of contracted providers to reduce unnecessary exposure.
Performance assessment and quality scorecards
Performance scorecards would be developed for contracted facilities. Data-driven monitoring would evaluate quantitative and qualitative service indicators, compliance with treatment protocols and conformity with issued standards. Results would guide contract renewals and resource allocation.
Health literacy for sustainable wellbeing
Nasehi described public health literacy as preventive public-health action. Helping insured people make informed treatment choices manages a major health-system risk. Provincial offices should document interventions and monitoring and convert successful experiences in reducing unnecessary services into operational models, protecting patients while safeguarding financial sustainability.
