The Workforce Health and Safety Supporters news outlet reports that, on World Environmental Health Day, 26 September, the Minister of Health and Medical Education issued a message outlining national HSE strategies and the need for data-driven management and preventive environmental risk assessment.
Referring to the international theme Environmental Health: Working with Science to Protect Communities, the message describes environmental health engineering as a foundation of national resilience and sustainable development. Modern environmental health extends beyond conventional inspections to continuous air monitoring, safe drinking-water networks, chemical and biological food-chain risk assessment, scientific special and hospital waste management and climate-related harm reduction.
Iran faces declining groundwater, expanding dust sources, industrial and urban air pollution and the need for safe chemical effluent and waste treatment. Addressing these challenges requires integrated HSE management systems, environmental and health impact assessment of industrial projects (EHIA), and close cooperation among agencies, industry and universities.
Priority Ministry programs include portable pollutant-measuring equipment for inspection teams, upgraded water and food reference laboratories, intelligent hazardous-waste tracking from generation to destruction, and online monitoring of harmful physical and chemical agents in workplaces and residential environments.
The message thanks environmental health inspectors and engineers, occupational-health specialists and HSE staff in industry, refineries and healthcare. It emphasizes that workforce health and environmental resources are prerequisites for sustainable economic development. A healthy environment depends on social responsibility, evidence-based decisions and participation across industry and society.
