Two construction workers, a father and son, suffered serious injuries after falling eight meters on the evening of 1 Shahrivar in Kashan. The report attributes the incident to failures in work-at-height precautions and the absence of standard protective equipment.
The Workforce Health and Safety Supporters news outlet reported that the fall occurred at a construction project on Mofatteh Boulevard. Initial field findings indicate it happened at about 21:00. The two men were working on the ground floor of the unfinished complex when they fell into basement level one. Suitable edge protection around the void and safety harnesses were absent. Both were seriously injured and immediately taken to medical facilities by Emergency 115 responders.
HSE analysis and warning
Safety specialists note that falls from height remain a leading cause of death and serious injury on Iranian construction sites. Weak risk management and inadequate oversight of unsafe conditions, such as missing guardrails, and unsafe acts, such as failure to use PPE, were identified as key factors.
Preventive measures for employers and contractors
– Temporary and permanent edge protection: enclose all openings and exposed edges with standard barriers.
– PPE: require a safety harness connected to a lifeline for workers at height or near open edges.
– Continuous supervision: ensure an HSE officer identifies hazards before construction work begins.
– Training: provide safety induction, particularly for tasks with fall risks.
The news outlet wished the injured workers a full recovery and called on the Labour Office and Construction Engineering Organization to investigate thoroughly and address any failures to provide workplace safety through legal procedures.
